April Ross
April Ross was one of the few female beach volleyball stars who won medals at more than one Olympics. She is set to compete in Tokyo for her third Olympic gold medal along with Alix Klineman, a first-time Olympian. In addition, Ross will be aiming for the first Olympic gold. As she is 39 and has a long way to go, this could be her final chance. Her optimism is that she'll be successful in achieving top honours. Ross was mentioned in NBC Boston as saying that if you play your highest, and even perform well, you will win the gold. In addition, I'll try the chance to have luck. Ross was a Californian born in the city of Costa Mesa in 1982. She lived here along with her parents and younger sister. While at Newport Harbor High School, she competed in numerous activities. Along with the indoor game, she also was a basketball player and also ran track as a pre-collegiate athlete. When she played in the final sport she stood out. According to her biography, she was a middle blocker and outside hitter on the volleyball court throughout her time in high school. In recognition of her accomplishments she was awarded the Gatorade Award for the National Player of 1999. In 2000, the Orange County Athlete of the Month award was also won by her in volleyball. Ross and Klineman started the partnership in 2017, However, Ross has been a beach player for years prior to. In actual Ross has been a winner of several major tournaments in her career together with two other partners. One of them is a volleyball legend. Between 2007 and 2013 she played with Jennifer Kessy, who is currently her coach. Along together with Kessy Ross was awarded the World Championship in 2009 when she competed on the international circuit. The 2012 Olympic Games, they won the gold medal. Misty May, Kerri Walsh and Kerri Jennings were the team that could take home the gold. As fate would have it Ross was Walsh Jennings' new partner when May-Treanor retired. They went on to compete for the bronze beach volleyball medal at Rio Olympics 2016 with Walsh Jennings. Ross was a player for the USC Trojans in college years after she graduated in high school. The time she spent at USC was quite impressive. In 2000, as a freshman she played her way to Pac-10 as well as NCAA Freshman of the Year accolades. She also was an All-American. The Trojans were also able to make it to the Final Four with her help. Her personal tragedy was a crushing loss in her sophomore year, but she still repeated in the ranks of an All-American. In her last two years of participation in the Trojans program, she coached them to a national title every year. In 2003-2004, she was named the best female volleyball player on the collegiate scene in the US according to The Honda Sports Award. Ross, a USC international relations student was a renowned volleyball player. Margie Ross did not get to see her daughter's rise to the beach volleyball spotlight. Ross's mother died of breast cancer while she was a sophomore in USC. However, she keeps her parents close to her the heart. Margie remains an inspiration both on and off of the beach.
